My name is Nkhesani Melva Hlogwani. I am 32 years old and I live in Winnie Mandela, Tembisa.
I am a mother, a fighter and a woman who believes in showing up even when things are difficult. I am currently building a small business to support my family of 11. It comes with a lot of responsibility, but I carry hope, faith and a strong determination to create a better future for all of us.
Being chosen for this programme means a great deal to me. It feels like someone saw potential in me during moments when I have doubted myself. It is a door that I have prayed for, and an opportunity to learn, grow and prove that where I started does not determine where I will end up.
I am excited to learn how to manage money properly, market my business and use tools that can help me grow. I want practical skills that I can use immediately to put more food on the table and build something sustainable for my family.
Through this journey, I hope to grow in confidence and leadership. I want to stop shrinking myself and start believing that I deserve a seat at the table. Most importantly, I want to become a woman my children can look up to.
My dream is to build a business that is stable enough to support my family and create jobs for other women in my community. I want a future where I am not simply surviving, but building wealth that will outlive me and benefit others.
Financial independence is incredibly important to me. It means dignity, choices and peace of mind. It means not having to beg for help and being able to give my children opportunities that I never had.
I hope this opportunity will help break the cycle of poverty for my family. If I grow, my whole family benefits. I want my children to see that education and hard work open doors, and I want them to know that their mother never gave up.
Graduating from this programme would mean so much to me. It would be proof that I am capable, teachable and unstoppable. More than that, it would be a victory for every woman who believes it is too late to change her life.
To anyone who feels discouraged, I would say this: Don’t let your current situation lie to you. You are not stuck, you are simply in progress. Take one small step today. God did not bring you this far to leave you. Keep going because your story is still being written.
My future feels brighter because I now have the tools, the faith and the support to build the life my family deserves.
