Nontobeko Nosisi Nkqayi | TCB Remake Programme | Cape Town
My name is Nontobeko Nosisi Nkqayi. I am 41 years old and I have three beautiful girls aged 17, 14 and 7. I also take care of my mother.
I was part of the TCB Remake Programme 2403. I joined Taking Care of Business (TCB) in August 2024, graduated in August 2025, and then started the Year 2 Programme after graduation.
I am a very adventurous person and I am always on the lookout for great opportunities to better myself. I am eager to learn new things.
I joined TCB because I wanted more for myself and my family. I wanted to upskill myself and learn more about business management as an entrepreneur.
My journey with TCB has been an incredible journey. I have learned a lot about being a business woman and how to take good care of your business. I have learned how to run and manage a business, from the product to admin, and to actually be hands-on in my business. I have also learned to be consistent in order to get a good end result.
I have always loved to upcycle my garments and create something unique that makes me feel good. Being part of the circular economy that gives new life to material feels so great.
Since joining TCB, I have become more consistent and have taken my business more seriously. I now treat it as a career.
My life has changed for the better since I became part of the TCB family. I can now run my business professionally. I can also provide for my family by selling products that I have created and recreated, as well as clothes that I have bought from TCB.
I love being independent and working my own hours comfortably while doing something that I am passionate about. My business is growing. I make streetwear, which is something close to my heart since I am from the streets of the Cape Flats. My love of hip-hop has pushed me in that direction because I love the culture.
My dream is to have my own clothing brand and own a clothing store, while also collaborating with other designers and artists.
I am unique. I was born to stand out, not to fit in. I am a trend setter. I would describe myself as optimistic, a perfectionist and independent. I am always striving for the best and doing the best. My children are my motivation to push through life.
My advice to others who are starting their own businesses would be that consistency is key. Stay consistent and focused on your business.
Taking Care of Business (TCB) is a nonprofit social enterprise. We are empowering unemployed South Africans and their families to escape the cycle of poverty through small business opportunities, mostly within the circular economy.
