Resell’s role in healing, empowering, and uplifting

Ntokozo Alicia Dlomo: A Taking Care of Business Success Story |  Resell Programme (Durban)

My name is Ntokozo Alicia Dlomo, and at 39 years old, my life has been a rollercoaster of pain, loss, and struggle. Raised in a family of eight with an abusive stepfather and a mother who was difficult to understand, I faced unimaginable challenges growing up. The loss of three children, enduring emotional and financial hardship, and trying to make ends meet on my own were all part of my journey. Through it all, prayer was my lifeline – my connection to hope and strength, guiding me through the darkest times.

Joining TCB was my turning point

In 2020, my life took a positive turn when I joined Taking Care of Business (TCB). It was more than just a business opportunity – it was a chance to rebuild my life. Walking into that space, I felt an instant connection. The warmth, the smiles, the support from everyone – it was unlike anything I had experienced before. Sister Hlengiwe, a graduate of TCB, introduced me to the organisation and explained how it could transform my life. I was nervous, unsure of what to expect, but the welcoming atmosphere made me feel at home. TCB was more than just selling clothes; it was a place where I could heal, where I could grow.

Finally finding the healing I needed

Joining TCB wasn’t just about learning business skills; it was about healing from my past. The sisters at TCB provided a safe space to share my story, to talk about the pain, the abuse, and the losses I had faced. It was the first time I felt truly understood. Through workshops and counseling sessions, I learned to confront my past, to forgive myself, and to find peace. The sisterhood at TCB was a crucial part of my healing journey – women who had been through similar struggles, who had faced their own challenges and emerged stronger. Together, we supported each other, shared advice, and built each other up.

Me? A businesswomen?

I never thought I’d be able to be a business owner, but with TCB’s support, I was able to turn my life around. The skills I gained – business management, money management, and entrepreneurship – were transformative. I learned how to be my own boss, how to make smart financial decisions, and how to manage my business effectively.

It wasn’t just about selling clothes – it was about creating a sustainable business, one that could support me and my family. I started selling in Pine Town, I had a table where I showcased my products, and even sold door-to-door. I made sure to always have new items, constantly restocking to keep my customers excited. The business was thriving, and I expanded into selling perfumes and bags, diversifying my offerings to grow my business.

A future worth investing in

My life was no longer a struggle. I moved into a better apartment and provided a safe, nurturing environment for my children. TCB not only gave me a business but a future – one where I could build a house for my family, renovate my mother’s house, and dream of owning multiple clothing stores. I learned the importance of saving, planning, and investing in my future.

TCB wasn’t just a place where I learnt how to sell clothes – it was a sanctuary where I could find healing, build a new life, and find strength in a community of women who understood what I had been through. I now see myself as a businesswoman, independent and strong, with a clear vision for my future.
